should you worry about postpartum hair loss-1

Pregnancy and giving birth bring lots of changes to women, and one of these is postpartum hair loss. If you are experiencing sudden shedding, sometimes losing hair in clumps and other times around the hairline on your forehead, don’t fret. This is just a normal symptom, and you will get back to what you looked before pregnancy very soon.

Reasons for hair loss

Hormonal change is the culprit of many of your changes during and after pregnancy. When you’re pregnant, a hormone called placental estrogen will boost your hair growth and make it thicker and lush. However, after you give birth or sometimes stop breastfeeding, the drop in pregnancy hormone will leave you losing hair in a short period of time. Actually, it is not hair loss, but that everything gets back to normal.

How long does postpartum hair loss last

The recovery time varies from person to person, but on a general basis, it is at least 1-3 months and no more than 6 months. By the time your kid is able to walk on his or her own, your hair will have regained its prime.

How to prevent hair loss

Despite the fact that postpartum hair loss is controlled by hormonal change, there’s still something you can do to prevent hair loss.

  • Keep a nutritious diet, eat lots of fruits and vegetables, or take in certain vitamin supplements recommended by your doctor.
  • Use a wide-toothed comb to prevent tangling or knotted hair. When washing and brushing your hair, be gentle.
  • Consider headbands or scarves to make your thin hairless obvious and add some sense of style at the same time. Say no to tight ponytails.
  • Use a moose to make your hair look fuller and more fluffy. After shampooing, apply conditioner to moisturize your hair.
  • Stop any hairstyling like highlighting, perming and straightening, and don’t use flat irons as little as possible.

Go to the doctors

In some cases, postpartum hair loss can be linked to the thyroid issue, and you will notice that you’ve been losing hair for over 6 months and the hair loss is more severe than normal. Besides hair loss, thyroid issues will cause other symptoms. If you do have this experience, go to the doctor for professional treatment.
