How to pack glasses for moving
Moving house can be rather tiring work, not only because it involves all the stuff in your house, but because it takes time to relocate them to a new place. And on the to-do list for moving, the glassware may be the least you want to pack. Lucky for you, today we’ll offer you a step-by-step guide on how to pack glasses for moving. Just go on to learn more.
Before packing:
Before packing, you need to prepare several tools and materials.
High-quality box: based on the number of your glasses, prepare some quality medium-sized box so that it won’t get too heavy with glasses in.
Packing tape: packing tape is used for final packing and for strengthening the bottom of boxes.
Bubble wrap, crumpled paper or tea towel: crumpled paper and tea towels are the most common tool for stuffing the box as a cushion. You can also use bubble wrap, despite it can be a bit expensive. Newsprint is another option, but remember to clean all your glasses afterward to remove the ink.
Cupboard dividers: cupboard dividers are not necessary, but they can offer extra protection for your glassware.
While-packing
Pack single or double glasses
Prepare a towel (or crumpled paper) on a flat surface, put one glass on a corner, and then roll it, tucking the towel tip into the opening of the glass. If the towel is too big, you can also wrap two glasses at the same time. For stemware, make sure to wrap the stems first to make them fully covered.
Stack glasses
Put layers of crumpled paper at the bottom of the box so that the glasses can be stored safely. Towels are acceptable as well, but make sure your box is strong enough, especially the bottom. After that, tightly stack the wrapped glasses one by one, with heavy ones at the bottom and the light ones on top.
Stuff extra space
When the box is nearly full, stop stacking, add in extra papers or bubble wrap to stuff the top spacing.
Seal the box
Once you’ve finished all these, seal the box with packing tape and add a label on it so that movers can easily know which boxes contain delicate things. Slightly shake the box, if there is still a clicking sound, you may need to add in more cushions.
While-moving
After packing, don’t stop paying attention to your glasses, as the process of moving can still cause damage. To stabilize these boxes, you can use furniture or large gears to enclose them. Also, keep them away from places where things may fall down.
