Why you have white hair at a young age?
A healthy, dark, and shiny hair is one of the most important parts for your good appearance. But it is particularly noticeable if there are white hair strands among the dark hair. Older people may care little about that, while the young – usually in early 30s and sometimes even 20s – will probably feel disheartened. In this essay, we will explain what causes white hair and how to reverse for white hair growth.
What Causes White Hair?
Hair growth includes three stages: growth(anagen), cessation(catagen), and rest(telogen). Hair keeps black with enough melanin. In the growth phase, hair is constantly pigmented, while during catagen and telogen, pigmentation reduces and gradually becomes absent. Usually, the early emergence of gray hair results from the following factors:
- Genetics
Genes determine at what age your hair will turn gray. The time will be as early as 20 years old; for others, the first white strands won’t appear until rather late.
- Stress
Stress causes a series of problems both physically and mentally, such as anxiety, sleep problems, and high blood pressure. What’s more, stress can also influence your hair. Research found that there is a connection between stress and the exhaustion of stem cells in hair follicles. So if you notice several new white hair, stress may be the reason.
- Vitamin Deficiency
If your hair turn gray at an early age, consider about potential vitamin and mineral deficiency. More specifically, lack in vitamin D, vitamin B12, iron, folate and selenium leads to inadequate nutrition for hair cells and melanin production.
- Smoking
Smoking is found to be the major factor leading to gray and white hair. It constricts blood vessels, which take charge of conveying blood to hair follicles. As a result, your hair follicle melanocytes are damaged and your hair turns gray prematurely.
How to Reduce White Hair?
- Increase Intake of Vitamin
If your gray hair is due to deficiency of vitamin and minerals, you need to adjust your diet and eat more food containing abundant vitamins, including eggs, seafood, meat liver, grapes, and green leafy vegetables. In addition, drinking tea helps a lot in fighting against graying hair, as it is rich in antioxidants which can prevent free radical damage to hair.
- Protect Your Hair from the Sun
UV ray from the sun is the factor that is usually ignored. Do bring on you a hat, scarf or umbrella to protect your hair, or you are risking yourself in absorbing oxidative stress from UV rays.
- Quit Smoking
Although there is yet no evidence to support the idea that quitting smoking will recall pigmentation, it means a good start in living a healthy lifestyle, which will in return have a positive effect on your body and your hair as well.
